A 1928 play by American playwright and journalist Sophie Treadwell, inspired by the real-life case of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder. This powerful expressionist drama examines the dependent status of women in 1920s American and the hell of being trapped in a loveless marriage. The play is set amidst a backdrop of a male dominated oppressive society in the shift or modern changes and new emerging attitudes to feminism. It seems to ask if it is necessary, for certain women at least, to resort to murder.
Performed by second year level three acting students as their final college work.
