    Reel Futures: LGBTQ Films

Join us for the next event in Reel Futures, a screening season exploring bold, boundary-pushing short films from across the UK and beyond.

Reel Futures is a season of short films curated by Mansfield Town Film Festival, designed to bring festival-quality cinema into the heart of the community while creating a direct pathway for students and members of the public alike into MTFF26 this September.

    LGBTQ FILMS:

    Theo's Friend – 10:48

Ready for the repercussions, a defiant Theo wears makeup to his college team's football training. Mayhem ensues, testing his resolve and courage to embrace his true self.

    It Gets Better – 8:38

'It Gets Better' is a short film highlighting the struggles young trans people go through in and around the U.K, whilst peppering in the impacts of grooming/sexual abuse, bullying, drug abuse and hypersexuality. 'It Gets Better' not only focuses on the turbulence and hardships of what it's like to be a young trans person but also how, regardless of gender identity, it can and will get better.

The Shade Of Chlorine – 22:18

Bilal lives off odd jobs he gets from the BOY application, but his head is filled with dreams of music. Hired to clean a luxurious villa, he falls under the spell of the mysterious Ulysses, the owners' son. This encounter will widen his horizons.

      Queen Size – 19:52

This morning, Marina has an appointment with Charlie to sell her a mattress. This evening, she will cancel her plane for Reunion. But they don't know that yet.

Do You Want To – 6:30

Under the sheets, Connor and Jake’s domestic bliss is put to the test. It’s bedtime, and someone’s in the mood – but do they actually know each other back to front, inside and out?... Porn, Plato, and power tools feature as they seek the answer in this silly, heartwarming romcom short.

    Captured For Life – 12:46

Told through the eyes of Denise playing as a child in the Scottish Highlands, we’ll discover how her parents saved more than just each other when they fell in love in a POW camp during World War Two.

    Wild Oats – 7:42

Rhona, a shy teenager stuck on her family’s farm, has a secret: she’s head-over-heels infatuated with celebrity crush Céline. Between endless chores, an overbearing father who can’t stay out of her room, and the chaotic interruptions of barnyard animals, Rhona can barely find a moment of privacy to explore her budding desires. Unfortunately for Rhona, the farm’s chaos—goats, chickens, and her dad’s ill-timed interruptions—makes finding privacy nearly impossible.

    What to Expect

After the screening, we’ll host a live filmmaker Q&A featuring creatives from across the programme joining both in-person and remotely.  Audiences will have the opportunity to engage directly with the filmmakers behind the stories, exploring the creative process, inspirations, themes and challenges involved in bringing these films to life.  Whether you’re a film lover, aspiring creative, student, or simply curious about discovering powerful new stories on the big screen, Reel Futures offers a welcoming and accessible cinema experience right in the heart of Mansfield.
